Looking for new and exciting ways to live the green lifestyle?

There are tons of things you can do in your everyday life. You can look at renewable energy sources to power your home or even look at getting your energy through places like www.energysavings.com or the like. You can switch out all those potentially deadly and harmful cleaning supplies for some good old fashioned eco-friendly cleaning. And you can even look at starting a recycling program in your neighborhood to minimize waste. There are so many big things you can do but there are many small things as well.

For example, did you know that up to 4 gallons of water are wasted every time you flush the toilet? While it’s certainly true that you should always flush the toilet, you really don’t need to waste four gallons doing what needs to be done. Why not consider investing in a more efficient toilet? That way you wouldn’t just save water, you would save money on your plumbing – win-win situation.

And what about those lights? Sure, you might really make an effort to make sure you turn off all the lights in the rooms you aren’t using, but what about your children. Sometimes they can’t help it, which is why it might be good to invest in a timer or motion detector for the lights.

And, while these all seem like small changes, they can really add to some tremendous savings – both in resources and your money.

Did you know that household trash, lawn clippings, and non-recyclable paper goods take up one-third of the space at landfills? That’s a lot of waste. At that rate, landfills will fill up quickly. Plus, imagine all of the methane gas created and released by that much packed-down garbage. Wouldn’t it be nice to find a better way?

Starting a compost pile in your backyard cuts down heavily on the amount of trash dumped into landfills, returns nutrients to the soil, and helps keep the air cleaner for everyone. It saves on fertilizer costs, because your yard clippings and kitchen’s refuse decompose down into a rich, crumbly soil conditioner you can use on next year’s vegetable or flower garden.

Composting uses organic matter like dead leaves and plants, grass clippings, tree and bush trimmings, shredded newspapers and cardboard, fruit and vegetable scraps, crushed egg shells, and coffee grounds mixed with a bit of soil and a little water. Since you frequently stir the mixture or turn the pile over now and then rather than compacting it, the gas produced is carbon dioxide rather than methane.

It’s easy to help save the landfills. Just use the best natural recycling method there is: Start a compost pile.Still bored? Click to continue: Ten Golden Rules in Composting

It is almost common sense that buying in bulk saves the money in your wallet. In addition to that, you are helping out the environment by saving on the amount of plastic that is used to make these products. Many people are practicing environment friendly options and buying in bulk is one of them. You can save the money that you worked hard on, and help the environment just by purchasing bigger quantity of items and separating them later on. A great way to purchase in bulks without the necessity for a big amount is to split between friends, family and neighbors. No one will complain about saving money, and you’ll be portrayed as the great person that is helping others as well as the environment.

If you are not comfortable with sizing in big bulks, an option is to purchase the regular size that you use and refilling these smaller size containers as you finish. This is a great way to save space and not have to deal with the big bulks. Just be sure to have a storage area that can contain all these bigger items and refer back to them every now and then. Purchasing big bulks does not change the expiration dates on products, so be sure to evaluate whether or not you can finish using products before expiration dates prior to purchasing.

Do you want to help save the environment and make things easier for yourself at the time? You can accomplish both of these things by signing up for online banking and bill pay through the bank where you hold your checking account. Almost all banks today offer this service, so if you don’t see it on your bank’s website, just give them a call to ask about registering for paperless banking.

There are many advantages of doing your banking this way, starting with not finding your mailbox cluttered with bills. Instead, you can request email notification when you have an incoming bill and then pay it through the Internet. If you need to keep a copy of any of your bills or statements, set up a folder on your computer to store them. You can always print out a hard copy if need be, but by not printing something only to throw it away later, you are doing your part for the environment.

Online banking also helps save the environment by lessening the demands for checks to be printed and envelopes to be made to mail those checks. You save money on postage, save time and save trees by opting in for online banking.

The question is often asked if recycled paper is just as good as virgin paper. ManydDecades ago, the brownish unattractive paper proudly advertised as recycled perhaps wasn’t as good in many applications. However, today things have changed and if you buy good quality recycled paper, it is just as good as virgin paper.

From office paper to toilet paper, it is all available in a recycled paper. If you need an acid free paper for archival storage, or framing artwork, you can get it in a recycled form. In addition, all colors are available with is no diminishing of color value for recycled paper.
Recycled paper made for copy machines and other office equipment works just as well as virgin paper, and usually comes with a guarantee.
The fact is, that not only is recycled paper just as good as any other paper around, but the benefits using it offers to the environment make it a significantly better choice.
